About the Photographer

I’m Christopher Johnson, the photographer behind Backwood Photographer. I live in the Green Country of Oklahoma with my wife and two daughters, and much of my work is shaped by a lifelong love for wildlife, wild places, and the quiet moments most people pass by.

My photography began during a family trip to Yellowstone National Park in August 2020. What started as curiosity quickly became something much deeper — a way to slow down, observe the natural world, and create images that preserve the feeling of being there.

Whether I’m photographing bison in Yellowstone, birds along the coast, owls in winter light, or landscapes shaped by weather and time, my goal is always the same: to approach nature with patience, respect, and attention to light.

The Work

Backwood Photographer is built around quiet observation. I believe the strongest nature images often come from patience rather than pressure — waiting for light, watching behavior, and allowing the scene to unfold naturally.

My goal is to create photographs that feel honest to the moment, while still carrying the atmosphere, emotion, and beauty that made the experience worth remembering.

Prints, Projects, and Inquiries

Selected images are available as prints and wall art, and I’m always glad to hear from people who connect with the natural world, quiet places, and the stories behind the images.
